I had the same concerns before using redweek the first time. It is worth the little bit of money to pay for a membership so that you can see all of the descriptions, reviews etc. They really help. I contacted the owner I wanted to rent from. I asked to see documentation showing that they own that timeshare. They did email it to me. Then I called the resort directly and verified that the paperwork I had is correct...they do indeed own the week and unit that is being advertised. The resorts are not willing to give out personal information, but they are willing to verify what you already know. Everything worked out fine for me. I have only rented off redweek twice, but would definitely do so again.
