Beware of “Bob” who rents units in Hilton Hawaiian Village!

Jun 24, 2020

We rented 9 nights directly (our big mistake) through Bob Gulley at the Lagoon Tower in HHV on Oahu for July 4-13. He has a “moderate” cancellation policy, allowing us to cancel for 50% refund 60 days or more ahead of time. Since it’s the pandemic, we asked for a little extra time to decide based on how things were going or to see if we could just cancel for a full refund. He said no because we should’ve bought travel insurance (but travel insurance didn’t cover the pandemic!). He offered to rebook us for 2021 but said he needed specific dates which wouldn’t be guaranteed, and if we just gave him a general timeframe of a month or so, his answer would likely be “no availability” and we would forfeit 100% of our money. Since it seemed he wasn’t going to be easy or trustworthy to work with, we felt forced to take the lesser evil of 50% rather than risk losing all of our money. Now that Hilton has given 100% refunds to all reservations because they are closed under the quarantine, we again asked for our remaining money back and he still refuses. Beware of renting from him.

We had the same experience for our Hawaii vacation from Alex/ally lady. She did give us 50% back but this is rediculous that you pay for something you can't use.
