donp is exactly right. The IRS states fair market value for write-offs on your income taxes. If you give your timeshare to one of those charity donation scams then the fair market value would be zero and the IRS will come after you ..... many times it takes several years for them to contact you and you have to pay back the $5000 write-off plus penalties and interest.
