History of Powhatan Plantation
What format are those journals in? I'm a historical geographer who studies agriculture in colonial Virginia and I'm always interested in finding new first-hand accounts. I've come across the family name, but don't recall having seen journals in Virginia archive of libraries. I'd love to find out what you have.

My family history has been traced back to William Wyatt and Elizabeth Eggleston (1723-1787) through my paternal grandmother's side of the family. I think the next generation back from Elizabeth was Joseph Eggleston and Anne Overton Pettus. If anyone has information about the Eggleston's at Powhatan Plantation, I would appreciate it if you would share it. That's as far back as I have any information about the family tree. We will be traveling in that area in the next few weeks, and I would like to know the history of the plantation, the slaves who were also related to the Eggleston's, and any other information you could provide. My email is lenzerc@neo.rr.com.

I just stayed at this resort. Very fascinating. Would love to know about the period from Civil War on through the restoration. Someone has a brother who lived there before the restoration? Would love to hear. Thanks. -Lisa
Any information appreciated.

Hello, it's been years since you posted. About the names of slaves you mentioned. We're or are you able to find any slave names with last names? I'm looking for a Billy or a Henry...or any. Will give you more when you text me.
Thanks

I just stayed at the Powhatan Resort and the history that was included in the materials I received when I checked in completely excluded any reference to slave labor that made the plantation so successful. Was that an unintentional oversight or was the mention of slavery omitted because it might upset the guests? As a descendent of slaves here in the US, I was offended that the history included minute details such as the name of one of the owner's horse, but no mention of the enslaved people who lived and worked on the property for free.
