I have 8500 Hilton points I bought on the secondary market. Hilton won't take back points under this condition. C.can I just stop paying maintenance fees?

Yes, you can "just stop paying maintenance fees". Just keep in mind that you will probably face a bunch of annoying collection calls and letters. You will possibly face a hit to your credit score and rating.

Just don't go hiring these exit companies or law firms that claim they can get you out of your situation scot-free.

Thanks Lance. If I decide to keep, can they hold my kids responsible for points purchased on the secondary market

We recently attended and turned down a presentation in Myrtle Beach. After doing some checking I’m interested in buying but still don’t quite understand. Does it really matter if I purchase points which location is the home resort? We are a family of five so would likely need a two bedroom. We have to travel over holidays with kids activities/school so I’m guessing also need platinum. Does the gold/platinum really matter or do you just need to spend more points? We likely wouldn’t go every year, but every other. Perhaps a small couple only vacation in off years.

That's a common misconception a lot of people have and a lot of exit company scams try to exploit. If you die, your heirs are not responsible for what you own and they are not required to accept ownership.

There may be some steps you have to take to get rid of it but your kids are not forced to accept.
