Lake Tahoe
We are looking to exchange a week for summer 2009 in Tahoe. We own at Marriott Canyon Villa and have a week on deposit w/II. I am trying to get more info regarding the various Tahoe options. We will be 4 adults . .my hubby and I will fly from Boston and my son and his wife will join us from San Fran. I would like a nice 2 BR unit w/amenities on the property and I really would prefer to be on the lake, and not on a busy road. All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks, Alice

Hi. Go to www.tripadvisor.com and check out the reviews of the various timeshare resorts in which you are interested at Tahoe. That will give you a good start toward making a decision. However, even if the location is on a lake, your actual exchange unit may not have a lake view. Stan.

living here in san francisco, l have going up to lake tahoe since the 1950's l has always been very beautiful. divided between california an nevada. the nevada side has the plusher hotels and resorts, because casino gambling is legal. the california side is much lower end chain motels and small independents, there are also many campgrounds. lots of places to eat from the very bottem of the food chain to full gourmet the real draw is the casino gambling. goenjoy. charlietuna

Alice, we like the lake too but in my opinion the better resorts are not on the lake and some like ours don't have lake view,(few exceptions).
We own at the Ridge Tahoe up the mountain fifteen minutes from the casino's and I can tell you it is great and so much to do for your family.
There are other resorts down by the casino's if this is what you like also!
A good place to check resorts with pictures and reviews are the Redweek rental/sales site. You can pick a area from So.Shore to North Shore and see what they look like and read some information about them also.
I posted when II changed from Five Star to their new rating . There are thirty resorts in Lake Tahoe and nine are rated Premier (Gold) by II.
This is just II and not Rci resorts!
Remember if you are going to be spending lots of time on the beach and swimming in the lake then a resort on the lake is great but even then many of the units sit back away from the lake.
I have been going to Lake Tahoe for many years and the one thing I found is no matter where you stay you will drive around the lake and drive to the beach area if this is what you want.
Have fun in Lake Tahoe! PHILL12

Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada of the United States.
Lake Tahoe is a major tourist attraction in both Nevada and California. It is home to a number of ski resorts, summer outdoor recreation, and tourist attractions.
Snow and skiing are a significant part of the area's economy and reputation Mountain and lake scenery are attractions throughout the year. The Nevada side also includes large casinos.
Highways provide year-round access from Reno, Carson City, and Sacramento.
