I have never had a problem with accepting a personal check from a timeshare renter. If you are worried, you can deposit the check and wait for it to clear. Also, I like to talk to the renter and help them know more about the resort. They can contact me.
To give the renter comfort, I now usually do the "verified" or the "verified and protected" using Redweek.
I prefer the verified and protected option as it gives comfort to the renter. So, Redweek collects and holds the funds and remits to me 2 days after the rental starts.
