Want to say the comments from 2003 and 2004 are
still accurate, and I'll add a few others: It's
not Gold Crown and never will be (there are only 9
units, think of it as a condo-at-the-beach not a
"Resort"), but High Dunes is fully as good as
other beachfront condos we've stayed at. The
kitchen and dining area are also large and
reasonably well-equipped. Some restaurants are
close enough to walk to. The immediate beach
area is uncrowded, High Dunes is in an area of
other small condo buildings and single homes, and
the hotels are about a quarter mile away.
Maintenance was good. Bring bicycles, it's flat
and everything's pretty close. Jockey's Ridge
State Park (100 ft sand dunes) is within biking
distance (3 miles) and there are inland forest
trails there too. Oh yeah, the Wright Brothers
came here for a reason, bring or buy a kite and
some strong string!
