What this resort lacks in amenities it more than
makes up for in its location and incredible
staff. We were about a 10 minute walk from the
French Quarter, which worked out really well,
because who would want to actually STAY in the
quarter? (Staying in the quarter reminds me of
the old adage, "Nice place to visit, but wouldn't
want to live there.") Additionally, the resort is
in close proximity to lots of good restaurants.
You definitely don't need a car unless you're
planning to tour outside New Orleans, because the
streetcar is a few blocks away, you can walk to
just about everywhere you would want to go, and
there is a $12 per day charge to park your car.
If you like jazz, or if you think you might like
jazz, or even if there is only a remote
possibility you would enjoy jazz, you MUST go to
Preservation Hall. It's in the Quarter, and it
is a cavernous, rustic, old hall where you sit on
wooden benches or stand in the back and listen to
jazz played as it was played at the turn of the
century. They don't amplify the sound or sell
any food and beverages. It's just the music, and
it's incredible being in that room hearing that
caliber of music. Definitely worth going to New
Orleans just to go to Preservation Hall!
