We stayed at the Sands Villa in Jan 2009 & loved it! The furnishings are rather dated & tired & the unit shows wear but, outside of a couple of window ledges, the unit (#522) was clean. It had the usual kitchen pots, dishes, glasses & utensils. There is free wi-fi, although the signal was weak (but sufficient). There was a small balcony with a GREAT view of the Atlantic. There is only one person on staff & no planned activities, so Sands Villa is more for those who enjoy self-directed vacations.
Being the off-season, there wasn't a whole lot open on the island. However, we still found plenty to do. There is a great aquarium on the island and one day we went to Shackleford island to see the wild ponies & look for shells. While we could not swim in the ocean, we enjoyed walks on the beach (which we practically to ourselves). The outdoor pool was closed, but the heated indoor pool was available. Most restaurants on the island were closed. While Sands Villa does have a restaurant on site, but it was only open two days a week in the off-season.
We would definitely would visit again!
