We stayed Thanksgiving Week 2008. This resort is
not luxurious but they make up for it in heart and
friendliness. The entire staff was great. The
relatively small size of the resort and resort
activities made it easy to get to know other
vacationers. They have an information session
with various tour operators on Sunday, and a free
welcome dinner and games on Monday night. They
have car rental on site that beats all the other
rental options in price. We stayed in a 2 bedroom
Admiral unit that was perfect for our family of
five. The jacuzzi tub was a great hit and the
large balcony overlooking the yachts was great.
They have a free shuttle to the beach, but the 1
mile walk is easy. City buses are also available
for $1.25 each way. We walked to the beach and to
the Port Lacaya market without difficulty. The
beach was not crowded. Billy Joe's on the Port
Lacaya beach was outstanding for fresh seafood - I
recommend the grilled conch. Ocean Reef also
rents bicycles and kayaks. We took a 2-person
kayak down the channel to the beach one day. This
is the shortest and quickest route to the beach.
The snorkeling on the beach near the channel was
very good (lots of fish and shellfish)
They also have two free shuttle runs to a grocery
store (prepare for sticker shock!). We'll take
some groceries when we return. Soda, lunch meat
and bread were reasonable though.
If you enjoy fresh seafood, don't miss the
Wednesday night fish fry at Smith's Point. You
can get there by taxi or bus.
Grand Bahama SCUBA operates on site and they are
extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Two of our
children completed the SCUBA certification program
(SDI) there and my wife and I were re-certified.
We enjoyed the dive sites tremendously.
