Ocean View units in existing building
You are correct that most of the oceanview units in the existing building are barely oceanview. The tree's have grown so you really have tree view units. When I went last June 2008, I called the front desk and discussed it with them so see if they had a unit closer to the ocean so I could see the ocean since that is what I bought! They did not and I'm not sure their is anything that can be done without cutting down trees. I think its just something we owners will have to live with! If we ever sell it, I'll have to say "Ocean View through the Trees" if you can see it.

That's why I bought the top floor corner oceanfront for weeks 51 and 52, and paid more for them.....I am dishearted with how this resort is turning into a "discount resort". So many units for rent it's ridiculous and each year the prices seem to be going down.......I have consistently rented my 51 and 52 weeks for $7500 each (2005,2006,2007,2008,2009) but I fear 2010 will be quite different. Too many units, too many owners, too many rentals.....plus, it is increasingly more difficult to convince would-be renters how important the upper floor front views are! And, how they have to pay more for them! Hey....just a little rant.

I don't know about you guys, but I am very disappointed in the management of our units and cost is going way up this year. I don't how many of you got the Owners Association bill yet, but oh my god! It went up $500.00 over last year. And yes, I read the detail and it made since! The taxes are the big issue and I wonder if other resorts are having the same issue. It just seems like when a county gets into trouble because they aren't getting the revenue, the answer is to raise taxes. I wonder what other action we as owners could take to stop this! Just call me frustrated in "California"...

We actually had a great oceanview rooms both times that we used our timeshare. The key is booking your reservation 12 months in advance. We also booked at he end of August which isn't as popular as the early summer months.
Beware of booking too late. You are not guaranteed of an oceanview room even if that's part of your timeshare contract (and why did I pay that extra money?). And the clencher is that you will not be able to verify if any oceanview rooms are available until you arrive at the hotel.
I just found out that the fee to convert your Star Options to Star Points (to be used for hotels) has been increased. The last time I converted Star Options the fee was $99. Now the fee is $130, a 31% increase! First astronomical increases in maintenance fees and now this! Will the drastic price increases never end!
