I did the math and came up with a about a 17 year break even. The maintenance fees seem on the high side. I'd like to know why anyone buys these units. The investment seem terrible. Other than that, I love that place.

Depends on what rate of inflation you use for the rental price and owning gives you the flexibility each year for the exact dates you want.
