New Tower Construction
We'll be at the resort in December and would like to get an update from anyone that's been there recently. How's the construction coming along? Any thoughts on how it's all going to turn out. What is the sales department saying the plans are for selling the remaining units?
Any thoughts on what the new inventory will do to the existing villa resales?

we are here now...if there is anything behind the scenes you would like to know, please contact me. constuction is not bothersome in any way. it is not noisy or dusty - we went to look for it actually. gym is open 24 hours and conveniently located. one nice restaurant but closed mon and tues and even though they were supposed to be open wed. closed then, too. no room service after 8 pm which is crazy and with the one restaurant open rarely, you have to dine elsewhere which is a nuisance on nights like tonight when it was pouring rain. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. large safes in the rooms and great air conditioning. decor was quite disappointing, though, way differerent than what we were shown at sales time...stop at safeway on the way home from the airport especially if you are arriving late as there is nowhere to dine after 1030 pm and they are open 24 hours and you can stock the refrigerator with goodies to enjoy later or late-night. please tell me what your impression was after your stay, and again I will gladly answer any questions you may have. enjoy your stay - the island is amazing..!

Did you go to a sales presentation of the new tower? When you mention the decor not being what you expected are you referring to the refurbished rooms? What is disappointing about it?
Julie V.
Yes, the refurbished rooms.....nothing like what we had seen when we had purchased them - very, very basic. nothing like we have grown accostomed to on kanapalli - from the westin to the sheraton...not even discussing the westin ocean time share or the ritz - and the beds are like what I would think HolidayInn has - no heavenly bedding here......

We own several units at the Maui Ocean Club and are enjoying our 2 bedroom OF unit this week. We are in the Lanai tower so are near the construction and I agree its not bothersome. Theyre still on schedule to open the first new tower (Lahaina tower) in June 2007 and the other new tower (Napilli tower) will be ready in early 2009. We just took a tour of the model for the new towers and the rooms are, of course, very nice. Prices for the two bedroom units are $66,000 and up. And the first new tower is 85% sold-out thus far. The Molokai tower has been completely rennovated and they are going to start a total renovation of the Lanai tower in early 2007.

I noticed that same thing at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club in Lihue. When they renovated the units in Kauai, the new furnishings looked really cheap in comparison to what was originally sold. I wonder if this is a deliberate decision by Marriott, or if they just used the same bad interior designer?
On the plus side, the timeshare unit renovations at the Marriott Mountainside in Park City Utah used first-class furnishings.

Was it just the bedding that you thought was sub-standard on your earlier visit? Or did they go cheap on all the furnishings (carpet, drapes, upholstery, etc) when renovating the units? Our next visit is not until Thanksgiving 2007, so I will have to wait until then to see for myself.

We stayed in both Lanai and Molokai buildings last year. In Molokai the new beds are great. Lanai didn't have them yet and what a difference. Re: the decor , I have always been disappointed in the same old teal green and maroon Marriott decor. Go to one resort or hotel room and it is the same as another. I agree they must be using the same old designer, and he doesn't have much imagination. So disappointing. I was hoping for tropical Island colors and rattan furniture for Hawaii. The only Marriott timeshare I have been in that had beautiful tropical decor was the Cypress Harbour in Orlando. They should find the decorator they used there and rehire him. I say him, because the decor certainly appears to be of a masculine choice.
Mind you, I guess they can buy one of a kind mismatches by the thousands at a better price, so why bother about an individual look for each complex? And if you have to replace a chair or a drape, nothing matches anyway, so you can put in anything as long as it is teal green or maroon, striped, checked, flowered, or plain. And the walls are pretty well painted light yellow. Perhaps the idea is that you will immediately feel at home at any Marriott. Wouldn't it be nice tho when you trade, to be surprised at each new place, to find lovely furnishings aptly chosen for the area, so you could feel you are at a different resort?
