We have stayed all over the islands, and after paying $$$$ for hotels, we bought at the this HGVC. Hilton has a program unlike others. Booking for this property or other HGVC is much easier to do because it is online. Changing reservations on line greater than 30 days is free; and the program offers a cheap way of booking rooms if you are traveling in less than 30 days. When using your annual points, you are not tied to the unit and 7 nights. You can also bank your points and borrow against points of the following year for longer stay/second unit.

In my opinion this location is perfect for families. The beach is wide and the waves are calm. The surf is good for beginners. The property is only 20 minutes from Kailua where the windsurfing is awesome. The hotel site is set aside from the noise of "Waikiki". Even though the property shops and restaurants are expensive, there are numerous inexpensive restaurants within walking distance. ABC stores are always around the corner, and the Foodland at Ala Moana or Wal-mart close by is perfect for those who don't mind cooking in the 1- 2-BR condos. Many local restaurants offer early bird specials if you are seated by 6pm. Since we are from California, eating at 5-6pm works for us. Compare to prices in LA, most of the restaurants are inexpensive; some are even cheaper due to the early bird specials. The entertainment book offers many buy-one, get-one free deals at many of the finer as well as casual restaurants -even some on the Hilton property.

As for the staff, we have observed that the "UGLY AMERICAN" attitude does not go over well with the locals (including staff). We have always had great responses with early check-ins, and late check-outs because we were friendly and courteous to the staff. The courtesy room allows for 10 minutes per person, but it is tiny compare to the suites, and one should call about 24 hours in advance to secure your desired time of use. Finally, I think tipping the housekeepers helps. On one occasion, the housekeeper allowed us to use the unit to have lunch and shower while she cleaned. I think we left at about 1pm. Waikiki is definitely not for people who are "trying to get away from it all." It is however much cheaper to stay here than in Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, Manhattan, Cancun, Cabo (the most expensive city in my opinion) and especially Europe with the Euro trading at about 1 Euro for $1.54 this week.

    Enjoy your stay and aloha.

Lagoon tower is my favorite of all the Hilton properties at Hilton Hawaiian Village. The 2 BR Oceanfront view is simply the best view you will find in the entire area and the size of the unit is huge! After visiting yearly for past 20 years, Lagoon tower Ocean Front is my only option and I've stayed in ALL the top rooms of all the different buildings.

This is the premier resort in Honolulu. The 22 Acres Hilton Hawaiian Village complex is located on the widest stretch of beach in Waikiki. The Grand Islander has its own pool, gym, and many amenities. There are numerous restaurants on the property and on the main street, Kalakaua Avenue, which is a short walk away. The resort is located on the bus route and there are also shuttles to Ala Moana Shopping Center and other destinations.

The view from Lagoon tower, facing famous Waikiki beach is breath taking. The sunsets every night, overlooking the lagoon below and the beach just beyond is always amazing. The units are spacious and comfortably fit 6 adults. Love coming back to this location time and time again.

We stayed in the Diamond Head tower two years ago and fell in love with the resort. You just can't beat this location for young children. The lagoon has many safe activities for kids and the beach is ideal as well. The expansive grounds are a beautiful adventure for the kids everywhere you go. Penguins, fish, parrots, flamingos, geckos, snails... the kids LOVED it. On the negative side, meals are expensive. Do not under estimate how much you will spend on a simple hotdog and soda. We loved our visit so much, we came back this July 1 - 10, 2011. This time with all four of our kids (ages 10 months - 10 years) and a babysitter making our group too large (7) for a single room or suite. We were very fortunate to locate a penthouse suite in the Lagoon tower on Redweek posted by an amazingly customer-oriented renter. We ended up saving a lot on the penthouse vs. reserving 2 rooms in the rainbow or Diamond Head towers. The two story unit was perfect with comfortable sound-proof rooms and well-appointed living areas. The view was gorgeous!! We fixed many meals in the room and saved hundreds of dollars. The renter, Victor Paranada, was extremely helpful to us even with details such as arranging for high chairs, etc. In all our travels, we put this experience at the top of our list because of the thoughtful, friendly service he provided and the value of the unit he rented us. Using the title company for payment was the only negative. They cost $200 and were NOT pleasant to work with. As for us, we will be back, will work directly with the same renter, and will not deal with the title company.

We stayed on the Island for two weeks. The first week was spent at the Hilton Wakikian and the second on at the Marriott Ko Olina. I was real hesitant to use my vacation time, staying on the Island of Oahu. Let me just tell you, this was one of the best Hawaiian trip we have ever done! The new Hilton Wakikian was more than I could have dreamed for! The rooms are all new and the services was impeccable!! I was so impressed with the service and accommodations, I added more point while we were there, and I never do that!!! Anyway, both resorts are spectacular and both have completely different experiences! Go! Enjoy the island known as Los Angeles, with warm water!!! It is a whole lot more!!!

Novmber 2006 - Lots of construction going on all day - the main pool was ovecrowded due to the closure of other pools. Other than that, a great trip. We look forward to coming back with our children and grandchildren when the new SuperPool is built and they have remodeled the lagoon and made it swimmable.

This is our first time staying as in the Lagoon Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, we have stayed before in the rainbow tower as hotel guests. We highly recommend this place to everyone and are planning on going back again.

Let me say that this is the BEST hotel in Honolulu as it has everything you could ever want! The beach is excellent, not too crowded like it is further down on Waikiki, it has a lagoon area that is perfect for kids & novice swimmers. There is some great snorkeling and surfing right there at the hotel. You can rent umbrellas, chairs, snorkels, ect right there on site. They have nightly entertainment at the Tropics Bar from 4:30pm - 7pm & Tappa Bar from 8-11pm. The bands are really good - highly recommend seeing Beach 5 & Typical Hawaiians.

Prices are what one should expect at a resort, expensive. However, there is an ABC Store right on sight and can buy drinks and snacks at a cheaper price. If you like coffee you need to go to Lappert's which right next to the Lagoon Tower, they will brew you a fresh cup right in front of you of one of Hawaii's famous coffee blends! Plus they have great ice cream at night. As far as eateries there is everything from Round Table Pizza to Benihana's there on premise. Accommodations were great as the room was very clean (1 bedroom ocean view is what we stayed in). It was quite and spacious with all amenities one would want. Plus there was free internet which was a pleasant surprise. They have free washer/dryer on each floor to use which was nice.

Staff was very pleasant and knowledgeable. I would recommend taking "The Bus" around Honolulu, it was very simple and easy the concierge desk can provide you with info on getting around as there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel. You can also walk to the main strip if so desire. The Zoo is a great stop if you love animals, aquarium is not as good but right next to the zoo. You can also rent a car from Hertz right there on site and take a drive around the island, which I recommend you do. If you are an AAA member, make sure you tell Hertz as it saves 20% and book one day ahead!

FYI, there was a little bit of construction but was not noticeable unless you looked up at the new tower they are building.

We just spent a week in the Lagoon Tower and family had the unit across the hall. We had a wonderful time, never felt crowded anywhere, and really appreciated the staff at the Hilton. The view was spectacular! A disappointment (to us and to Hilton) is that the newly-renovated lagoon pool is full of algae. No one is swimming in it. Hope they can figure that out before we return; in the meantime, five guys are sweeping the algae every morning. No way they can get it all, tho. Had to walk past it and swim in the ocean.....no problem there.

We heard the construction next door but it did not ruin our trip. Should be finished this December, we hear. We walked to dinner in Waikiki in the evenings along the beach. It was close enough that our three-year-old enjoyed the walk. Found the little store onsite had misc. things we needed....as did the nearby ABC store. We did not need a car. We can not wait to return.

We really like the Hilton Hawaiian Village & the Lagoon Tower units.

To us the location is great, because as someone noted you leave your room, walk just a bit and you are on the best beach in Waikiki.

Some folks complain that it's expensive. So tell me where in Honolulu, isn't it expensive for the tourist?

If you want cheap stuff there is an onsite ABC Store.

If you want to eat cheap, get away from the resort and get a plate lunch at any L&L or any other locals place.

Someone else complained because they bought a timeshare without doing their homework. Sorry to hear that, but that's why it's called due diligence.

Yes, there is construction now to make the Lagoon better and build the new super deluxe Grand Waikikian right next to the Lagoon Tower.

Folks are right, in our opinion the "super pool" isn't that super. But I go to Hawaii to swim in the ocean. If I want a pool, I'll swim in our own here at home.

Is this place for people that want nothing but peace, quiet and tranquility? No, it's not that kind of resort. There are lots of those in other locations in HI. But neither is it the center of Waikiki Beach, so it's not as crowded on the Beach as say, the Royal Hawaiian. So you kind find little corners that are relatively quiet and peaceful, but if you want to get out and do some city things, this is a great place to call home base.
