Maui’s golden shores and impressive volcanic landscape attract visitors year-round. Just minutes from the beach, The Kuleana Club Maui offers comfortable one-bedroom accommodations. Visitors will enjoy the sunny strands, hiking the surrounding forest, and golfing nearby at Kapalua Golf’s top-rated Plantation Course. The resort is less than a one-hour drive from Kahului Airport.

The Honokowai neighborhood is a quiet section of pristine coastline located just north of the more crowded tourist area of Ka’anapali. The Kuleana Club Maui is just a few blocks away from restaurants, beach parks, and shops. Exploring the island is an essential experience of visiting Maui. For this reason, we recommenced renting a car. There is parking for one car per condo for free. No additional parking is available on property. There is a bus stop directly in front of the property and Uber and Lyft are easily accessible as well.

The weather is almost always great, and the staff at the club are helpful and freindly. The pool, tennis court, golf green, and grounds are always immaculate. Ideal location between Napili and Kaanapali. Many shops and dining locations within walking distance, two big supermarkets less than 5 minute drive. Huge warm pool, tennis courts. Extensive lawns and gardens. Gorgeous ocean sunsets nightly. Small private beach with small to modest waves mostly shaded by enormous tree. Sea ladder at other end of property with great snorkeling with PLENTY of turtles. Owners since 1978. This relatively small resort has everything! After many visits to all the other islands, The Kuleana is the best resort at the best location on the best island in Hawaii.

The location and ocean front view is spectacular! The turtles every day, all day we’re magnificent! However, sadly, the cleanliness of the room was questionable and disappointing. Was satisfied they were able to move us to another room. I would come back as long as I am able to stay in an oceanfront unit.

In our opinion unit 610 at the Kuleana Resort has the best location at the best low-rise property in Maui.

    ALSO

We found early October (weeks 40 & 41) is an excellent time to be at the Kuleana; less crowds on the island, less ‘little darlings’ in the pool, calmer ocean waters, but with the usual perfect weather.

In unit 610 my family were just feet away from our morning swim in the Pacific Ocean, or perhaps the large, heated resort pool, later enjoying morning coffee on our lanai, later still, watching the glorious sunsets and perhaps seeing a Humpback breaching in the ever so blue sea.

Being in the upper unit of a 2-level, low-rise, vacation condo there was no noise from above, no creepy-crawly insects visiting, no prolific, exotic bushes obstructing our view of the offshore islands of Lanai and Molokai, nor the odd nosy vacationer wandering past our doors always open to the cool, tropical breezes.

Centered amongst serene, tropical gardens, condo 610 allowed us to sleep well, enjoy meals on our lanai or in nearby Lahaina town, explore, have fun, but go home sooo.. refreshed.

We'd all go again at this time of year, no problem...

Stayed here in Aug 1974 and again in March 2005. This is a nice, clean condo, right on the ocean. No air conditioning in the units, but ceiling fans make it very comfortable. The grounds are professionally maintained and really capture Maui's beauty. Very nice pool and tennis court. A good place to "get away from it all" without having to be around large crowds of vacationers. Views from the room are amazing with the islands of Lanai & Molokai just across the channel. The quaint town of Lahaina is only minutes away.

Stayed in an ocean front room on the ground floor in Dec 04. Fantastic to be able to walk straight out of your unit right to the ocean. Older property that is very well maintained. Turtles visible almost every day right from the shoreline. Wonderful sunsets. Good snorkeling right off the shore (a bit tuff on the entry/exit....). Many (most?) of the units are whole ownership, not timeshare, and the permanent residents are very nice. Close to all the good stuff on west Maui, including Lahaina. Would stay at Kuleana again in a heartbeat!

My wife and I just returned from one week visit. We went to evaluate whether to buy a two week resale.

We had a great time in our groundfloor oceanfront unit. We did our daily swim/float/turtle hunt right in front of the complex. Turtles everyday right below you. The previous reviews are all correct about the grounds--very nice. The pool is large and warm. There is a small sandy beach but we used the ladder to enter the water--then drifted/swam parallel to the shoreline and exited on a beach about 150 yds away.

We logged many hours sitting on our patio--about 30 ft from the water--just staring at the view. The sun sets directly in front of you with Lanai and Molokai framing it--simply unbeatable.

Edit June 2012: Still love our 2 week timeshare in June. Units now have flat screen TVs and wireless modems.

The Timeshare staff and the rental office staff were all very nice. The full time residents and the timeshare owners were very friendly as well. It was like we were all part of something special--a hidden jewel of a resort.

So, you can tell that my wife and I really enjoyed our stay there--and we intend to buy two weeks (at least) there. However, there are a couple of things potential visitors should know.

    1. The units are all one bedroom with queen beds. We wish they had kings. 2. Families with smaller children/grandchildren would need to be super vigilant about the ocean. The rocks can cut your hands and feet and the waves can be substantial--for a child under 10. 3. Wifi present in the lobby and most outside areas, but not in the units themselves. (I loved sitting on the lawn at ocean front with 180+ degree views with my laptop) 4. Very basic, small units. Our kitchen was very adequate but we never really cooked. 5. Lack of air conditioning was not an issue for us--and it was pretty hot last week. Ceiling fans and the ocean breezes were fine. 6. TVs were very basic.

That's about it. Very few negatives (for us). Very relaxing, very romantic, great location and unparalleled setting.

Stayed at an ocenfront ground floor unit in December 2006. It was like heaven on earth. The ground floor oceanfront units are the best units here since you have an unobstructed view of the ocean as well as the ability to walk out from your unit to the ocean.

The staff was very nice and even gave me an extra pair of abandoned sandals when my luggage was delayed several days! Most unusual dedication to pleasing everyone.

The barbecue units right on the ocean are awesome. The staff cleans them spotlessly every night. You could be barbecuing your dinner while swimming in the ocean or swimming pool at the same time since the activities are so close to one another.

In the hotels, it can take as much as 10 minutes to walk from one activity to another which saps valuable vacation time.

This is a do-it-yourself vacation not a vacation in which you are waited on hand and foot as in Four Seasons Hotel (which happens to be the finest hotel in Maui and elsewhere).

If you are going for a 3 day stay; go to the big hotels as they are better suited for a short visit. If you are staying for 5 days or more stay at time share units like this little jewel of a place.

I would never stay anywhere else! I loved it and im going back in a couple months. Having a condo on the bottom and beach front was what made my experience so great. I highly recomend staying in a similar unit. It was so nice to just walk out my back patio and go right to the beach and to cook dinner at night on the bbq's right along the beach shore with tiki torches lighting the way. Having breakfast every morning on my patio with the ocean right there was just a great experience. I would say it is the perfect place if you want a great romantic location for two.

We have been visiting the Kuleana for about 25 years. We have stayed on all the other islands, and still like this place the best. It isn't fancy, and there is no A/C, but it is quiet, clean and the grounds are beautiful.

We recently purchased two weeks at the Kuleana, we like it so much. Can't beat the view from our lani. And, the little beach is delightful, as is the ladder down the lava flow for instant snorkling.

We had a mid level ocean view room. The view is magnificent - grass, palm trees, flowers, ocean, Lanai and Molikai (sic) islands, sunsets, then lanterns, stars, and moon at night.

We felt we were in a beautiful well kept private garden. The pool is large and not crowded. I would like to see them add a spa. We did not use the BBQ but it nicely positioned by the ocean's edge. No beach but there is a ladder into the ocean and the depth is about 7 feet. We saw several snorklers in the clear, calm, warm water. We did not use the tennis court.

An activities person comes on the first morning and we signed up for several activities including the all day trip to Hana and half day snorkle trip to Molikini (sic) and and all day Trilogy sail trip with sunset return to from Lanai. All three are well worth it.

I golfed at Kapalua The Plantation Course, home of the Mercedes Championship each Janauary - wide fairways and forget it trouble off them. And views to take your breath away. Even if you do not golf, go for dinner.

The local village has a great fish market and my wife fixed us a wonderful fresh fish dinner every bit as good as Mamma's Fish House.

Several high rise hotels and large crowds are just down the road and we visited them but it is so nice to get away from the crowds. Kuleana is quiet, low key, and very beautiful. Nothing on the Northwest Coast is more than a 10 minute drive from Kuleana.

The unit(#510) was right by a busy road, which was not good because the windows needed to be open all the time. It was extremely hot in the late afternoon hours. The ceiling fans helped, but it wasn't the same as air conditioning!

The 1 bedroom condo was adequate, but dated and worn. Many of the kitchen utensils were missing. The floor had not been scrubbed for quite a while. I bought my own sponges and Lysol to scub the bathroom, then it was better.

I was hoping to get an oceanfront unit , but was told at check-in that I had no choice which unit I was assigned.

There was no activities on site.

I give it a 2 star instead of 1 only because the site is very beautiful. You can snorkel off the point in the back of the resort. I saw a stingray out there.

The beach behind it is lots of fun. Gentle waves and soft sand.

The pool was fresh and clean.

The location is a little far from the action. We drove into Lahaina and Knaapali beach every day.
