Beautiful location on the Pacific Ocean. One of the last resorts built on the beach of the Pacific Ocean near the famous Cabo Lands End Arch. Quick walk down hill to the Marina where the Bisbee Tournament boats dock.

This a great resort for all different variaties of people, in a quiet little cove away from the busy streets of Cabo.

We have gone to Solmar every year since 2000. We !ove our little"old" SolMar. we were there in Jan. And it was as lovely as ever. We own week 52 and would love to buy a couple more weeks now that we are retired. Feel free to contact us. Christy 208-989-5616

Good location, but a very "tired" property. We went the end of May and were almost the only ones there. It felt deserted. The rooms need lots of help. Only 1 tiny TV in the bedroom, and none in the living room. Not 1 lamp that you could read by. Maybe a 2 1/2 stars.

My first time at Solmar. I usually stay at Playa Grande (sister resort). Yes Solmar is older and it's next to the construction, but it has a certain feel that is much nicer than Playa Grande. Does it need upgrading - YES, but it is comfortable. The staff is as nice as can be. I hope they call when the turtles are ready to be helped to the ocean! If you like to be next to the lower pool, see if you can get buildings A or B. If you're back in J or K you don't have a view unless you're on a higher floor. If you're an owner wishing to upgrade to the Grande Sol Mar, remember you have options. You don't have to take a 50 year contract, they have 25 years and odd/even. Don't be carried away by the pictures and VIP area. For the price and the staff - you could be better off at Solmar!

The construction is in the old hotel area which was torn down. The original timeshare units on the opposite end, 5 bldg. 2 stories high, surrounding the pool area and bar and a jacuzzi are still mellow. Nice view of the beach, great sunsets.

We stayed here in April of 2009. thankful to have been able to experience the old charm of Solmar before the big money came in for the big demolishing project "Grand Solmar". I am sure the building may have had some safety issues BUT the charm will disappear with the the coming of the new Grand Solmar. It is all about sales here and Playa Grande the sister resort up the beach where you have to fight for a poolside lounge, pay for twice as much for drinks and loose the quiet to business of over sales of units. Hopefully the staff will stay, they were very helpful in most matters. But as anything, growing larger this fine resort in the sun will desolve to corporate greed like Play Grande has. Sorry to you Solmar owners for your loss of a truly historical place.

Just to warn everyone. The Sol Mar Resort that was reviewed PRIOR to the new construction does not resemble what has taken its place so you should not rely on the old reviews. What made people fall in love with Sol Mar was the simplicity and charm,the quiet , the small scale without high rise construction.. in dramatic contrast to the giant rocks and the long wide beach and unobstructed ocean view ...right ON the beach. There was no place like it. Now its been sacrificed to create more units that can sell for more and make it "GRAND" ...and like the other resorts in the area.. This is NOT an improvement for old Cabo hands ...It is a travesty.

We were there from May 2 to May 9, 2010. The first row of hotel units next to the hill have been totally removed. There is a temporary wall separating the pool area from the construction area. The old restaurant has been removed and almost all festivities are at the pool bar or in the entryway by the computer room. The staff is the same (great in our opinion). Our unit is in the newer section behind the small upper pool. We were "invited" for an "update" meeting on the new project and readily accepted the "90 minute- tour" offer. We had hoped to hear what the real affects were for existing owners but it was really a timeshare-upgrade-trade your unit+$$$ sales attempt. Not too high of pressure and we think we did learn some of what to expect but I'm always a somewhat skeptical of what I hear at any type of presentation. In all, we had a great time as usual but the resorts and town were largely empty because of the swine-flu scare. We saw no evidence and heard of no one ill. The management gives every indication that existing owners will be properly taken care of by Solmar/Grand Solmar, time will tell. As you visit, please update us with your experiences. P.S. If you approched to see a tour of the "Mayan resort" - we recommend staying very far away! They are very high pressure!

I was just in Cabo in October 2008 and went to a meeting at Solmar/Playa Grande. They are planning to tear down the hotel units along the mountain and build a high rise of 12 levels, extend the pool area and add units down near the beach beyond the new pool area. The units behind the pools are not going to be affected. I was told that construction was planned to start in January 2009. They are curently updating the older units with larger refrigerators and televisions in the living areas.

We own a hotel unit at Solmar, week 42. We have been coming here for 5 years now and just love Solmar. It is very clean, quiet and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant food has improved substanially and the wait staff are much faster than prior years. My only complaint this year is that we have been hearing lots of different stories about the "renovation" project at Solmar which is going to affect the beach front hotel units. We could not get a straight story from anyone at either Solmar or Playa Grande about what was happening with the resort. Rumors were rampid. The lastest "news" is that they are going to start tearing down some of the hotel units within the next 30 days. We have no idea what that means for the hotel unit owners. I would suggest anyone planning on staying at Solmar to inquire about this before booking or purchasing.

We own 5 units at Solmar and we are looking for another week to buy for week 47. We have tried many timeshare units and Solmar is outstanding in many ways.

We would also rent a unit for week 47 in 2009 year.

We are timeshare owners at SolMar. One reason we love SolMar is that it is away from the noise of downtown and you get a nice secluded feeling. Yet it is close enough to walk to town if you want to. We love the sound of the ocean waves and the views are beautiful. There is a really nice restaurant there and another great place to eat lunch by the pool.

Me, my mom and twin sisters visited Sol Mar in October. I was a little worried about this resort because some reveiws mention that it is old and not updated. The only reason I am going to rate it 4 stars is because the bedding and the televisions could use updating. Otherwise we loved it here - it is small enough to be quaint and you can get to know the other guests, but big enough to have all the privacy you want. We stayed in the two story buildings on the sand - location was great! We did the same as the previous reviewer - we took snacks and drinks in a cooler to the pool. One thing that is deceiving is the walk to town. It is close but there is a pretty big hill between the resort and town, my mom had a little difficulty with the walk. I would only worry about it if you have someone with you that is older or has trouble walking hills. I would definitely recommend this place.

Great for all kinds of people. Families, couples, friends. Great for people on a budget or not. We bring our own cooler, get ice from the bar, and bring our own drinks and snacks to the pool. Great restaurants on-site and within walking distance. They provide the beach towels. The beach is very private, no vendors. We go here twice a year and have no desire to try another resort. You won't be disappointed.

We absolutely love this place. Its not for everyone. For folks who do NOT want to party and play loud music, get drunk, or be around those who do, its great. This is a place for mature quiet enjoyment, for reading and sunbathing, for enjoying the atmosphere of a retreat. We go every year.

By the way, to cat lovers: There are cats here who will come and visit. I am guilty of giving them saucers of milk and cat kibble.

Sol Mar is a treasure. It has a unique quiet and protected location just a short walk from the action of town. The three pools have different personalities, ... something for everyone. Pleasant whale watching outlooks are availabe at the palapa bar as well as from pools and hot tubs. The kids love it and have made friends they look forward to revisiting each year. As for the fishing, ... terrific. The staff are helpful and friendly, ... better than some family members. If you want to wallow in pampered luxury in the latest, bestest, most deluxe, this is not the spot. But if you're looking for a really nice vacation resort that's priced right, you'll find it at the Sol Mar.

This place is awesome! Very relaxing, secluded, private, wonderful. I would love to stay there forever. The staff is wonderfully helpful and kind. The food is excellent. The views are amazing.

We have stayed at Solmar several times since 1996 and have never been disappointed. It is such a contrast to other commercialized resorts we have stayed at. A great place to relax and enjoy Cabo life! We usually take advantage of the discounts that Solmar offers on rentals and adventures, and their fishing fleet. With the ability to walk up the beach to the Finistera and Playa Grande and use their pools and restaurants, we swam and ate at a different location daily. Our children, when given a choice, always pick Solmar.

Private beach with sighting of whales, sea lions and stingrays everyday. Maid service was excellet....clean rooms. Turn down service. Not the space and quality we traded from. Not customer friendly in letting the guests know what is going on daily at the resort. (Mexican Fiesta, poolside ceramics etc) We found out about alot of the activities the day before we left just by accident. Timeshare closer very rude when we said "No". Would not go back to Cabo San Lucas.
